Steven McAneny – Principal Solicitor Top↑


Steven Graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, Finance and Systems (BComm.) and is currently admitted to practise as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and of the High Court of Australia.

Steven has over thirty years experience as a legal practitioner working both for himself and in larger Sydney based firms. Steven has specialised in Estate Disputes and Supreme Court Family Provision Claims and Estate Planning for the past eighteen years. Previously, he specialised in Civil and Criminal litigation. He also practices in Conveyancing and Property Law, and Family Law Property Settlements.

Stevens areas of specialisation are:

Steven lectured at the University of Wollongong for ten years and maintains a strong affiliation with the University by mentoring students through the Legal Internship and Practical Legal Training programs, and employing students on a part time basis.

Steven is recognised by the Salvation Army as being an Honorary Solicitor Member and is committed to supporting local charities and community organisations. Steven played soccer for Woonona Sharks Soccer Club, and was the Secretary of Woonona Senior Soccer Club throughout his playing career. He also played for Northern Uniting and Cawley Vale Soccer Clubs. Steven continues to sponsor a number of sporting teams in the local area.

Taylor Bell - Senior Associate Top↑


Taylor graduated from the University of Wollongong with a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (GradDip(LP)) and is currently admitted to practise as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, and as a Solicitor of the High Court of Australia.

Taylor has experience in all areas of general legal practice, including property law, employment law, consumer law, and estate law (primarily wills and probate / letters of administration, and non-contentious estate advice) having worked at McAneny Lawyers for 6 years. Taylor's particular interests and expertise are in:

  • Estate Disputes and Litigation – particularly claims made pursuant to the Succession Act (claims for family provision)
  • Family Law – Property Settlements
  • Civil Litigation, Commercial and Corporate Law

Taylor has acted for interstate and overseas clients in estate disputes and family law and is happy to conduct telephone and skype conferences to facilitate this.

Notably, Taylor can offer practical and cost-effective advice, and will strive to achieve the best result possible without having to proceed to Court. If however Taylor cannot achieve an amicable settlement out of court, Taylor is experienced in litigating matters in all Civil jurisdictions including the Supreme Court of New South Wales, Federal Circuit Court, and Family Court of Australia.

James Howell - Senior Associate Top↑


James Howell is an experienced solicitor who practices exclusively in Criminal defence law.

James has extensive experience throughout all Criminal jurisdictions within New South Wales. This includes the conduct of Supreme Court Bail applications, instructing in complex District and Supreme Court trials, District Court sentence hearings and severity appeals and litigating Local Court defended hearings and sentence proceedings.

James has worked on numerous case studies in the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Assault for both institutions, witnesses and survivors.

James is available to provide consultation and legal advice to persons in custody or on remand at all metropolitan and rural correctional centres.

James is on the panel of approved solicitors for the Legal Aid commission of New South Wales in General Crime and other matters including Children's Court matters. He is willing and available to conduct legally aided matters.

James also provides advice and representation relating to disputes for Working With Children Checks, Victims of Crime Applications and other procedures ancillary to criminal proceedings.

James is a graduate of the University of Wollongong whereby he obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Majoring in History & Politics. James completed his Graduate Dimploma of Legal Practice at the College of Law in 2011 and is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of NSW and the High Court of Australia.

James also volunteers with the NSW Law Society Mock Trial Competition and the University of Wollongong (UOW) Advocacy program as a magistrate as well as being active in pro bono legal help and advice for disadvantaged members of our community.

Rebekkah assists clients in all areas of Conveyancing and Property Law, Wills, Powers of Attorney and Enduring Guardianship documents.

Rebekkah recently graduated from Macquarie University and is a Licensed Conveyancer working from our Helensburgh office. She is experienced in all facets of Property Law, and Commercial Law.

Kayla assists clients in all areas of General Practice and conducts complex legal research tasks to assist our professional staff in litigation matters.

Kayla is currently studying a double degree in Laws and International Studies at the University of Wollongong.

Gena Merrett – Conveyancing Paralegal Top↑


Gena has over thirty years of experience assisting clients with all conveyancing, mortgage and property related matters, as well as sale and purchase of business transactions.

Gena is also experienced in all aspects of Commercial Law and Business Law, and is often the first point of contact for client enquiries. She is a Justice of the Peace in New South Wales.

Carol assists our solicitors with all estate matters, including - Grants of Probate, Letters of Administration, Estate Administration, and Estate Disputes.

Carol has over 17 years of experience in estate law and assists our clients in an approachable, sensitive, and attentive manner.

Mel is the professional assistant to the Principal, and undertakes a variety of work at our firm, predominately in the areas of wills, powers of attorney, enduring guardianship documents, and conveyancing.

Mel is also the friendly face of our reception, and is always available to assist our clients in the first instance with all enquiries.

Liam is currently studying law, and international studies at the University of Wollongong and is in his second year of studies.
